Does SMP hurt?
The level of sensitivity during scalp micro-pigmentation varies depending on the person being treated. However, according to feedback from the majority of our clients, the pain level typically ranges from a 2 to 4 out of 10. Most clients describe the sensation as more of a constant tapping feeling rather than a painful one, and they say it is generally easier to tolerate compared to a traditional body art tattoo. A traditional tattoo goes 5-7 layers deep, while SMP only goes 2 layers deep, and the average micro needle size is 0.2mm (extremely small). In fact, many clients have found the experience so comfortable that they have even fallen asleep during their SMP treatments. If pain is an issue or concern for you, topical anesthetic from the compounding chemist can be organized prior to your session

How long does the SMP process take?
The treatment process involves 2-4 tattooing sessions, allowing us to gradually enhance density through meticulous dot work and incorporate texture using a variety of pigment shades. Adequate healing time is allotted between sessions, typically 7 days, to ensure optimal results and allow the treatment area to heal and pigment to settle effectively from the previous session.
The duration of each tattooing session varies, lasting approximately 3- 5 hours, contingent on the size of the treatment area.
Additionally, we conduct a follow-up 6 weeks after the final tattoo session to assess the tattoo's progress, ensure flawless healing, and make any necessary adjustments for utmost satisfaction.

When my SMP is completed, will it look noticable?
When performed by a skilled practitioner, scalp micro-pigmentation should seamlessly integrate with the surrounding hair, making it virtually indistinguishable to the untrained observer. During the SMP procedure, we carefully select needle impression size and pigment shades to precisely match the shaved follicles of the client's natural hair. Additionally, we collaborate closely with the client to map out the desired hairline and implement effective blending techniques, resulting in the most realistic and lifelike outcomes.
Once completed to maintain a natural appearance, it is crucial to keep the hair at an appropriate length and properly care for your SMP..

Will my SMP treatment ever turn blue?
No, absolutely not!
At Alchemy SMP, we exclusively use C.I. 77266 organic black inks, which are sourced from leading ink manufacturers for the tattoo industry. Our premium inks meet the highest Australian standards and are perfect for SMP applications as they do not change color. They are composed of organic ingredients, ensuring optimal compatibility with SMP procedures. The specially formulated inks are engineered to retain their intended color and gradually lighten over time.
6
How long does SMP last?
The ink/pigment that we use at Alchemy SMP in scalp usually last anywhere from 4 to 7 years then will gradually fade and soften as time goes on. Proper aftercare of your SMP tattoo following treatment is key to prolonging the longevity of your results.
To maintain the optimal appearance of SMP, we generally recommend scheduling a refresh every 3-5 years. The frequency of refresh sessions may vary based on factors such as your skin's acceptance of the pigment and the level of care provided to your SMP.
7
Is there any downtime?
During the initial healing phase of scalp micro-pigmentation, the treated area may appear brighter than the intended result for the first three days. It is also common for clients to experience mild redness and tenderness in the first few hours following treatment.
To promote optimal healing, we advise clients to maintain the cleanliness and dryness of their scalp for a minimum of 24hrs after the tattooing procedure. It is important to avoid excessive sweating during this time.
If desired, you may wear a clean hat during the healing period to protect the treated area.

Can I get SMP if I have light hair, red hair or grey hair?
No matter if your hair is red, blonde, brown, or black, it will appear gray when shaved to its shortest length. This is taken into consideration during your SMP procedure, where the ink shades used is carefully selected to match the color of your follicles when shaved. If you have lighter hair, then the inks dilution ratio is increased so no matter what hair colour you have we can get the pigment to match your existing follicle.
